Bye Bye

Sometimes things just have to end and we at Village House have come to an end.  After deep contemplation and due to many reasons, we have decided to close Village House Interiors after almost 20 years in business.  As of June 1st, we will no longer be operating under this company name, but do not despair, we will be reappearing soon.  Watch for a new blog, more interesting design advice, a new venue and many more and better things to come.  Thank you to our clients who have given us countless opportunities to work on projects of various scope and size.  We have enjoyed getting to know you, sharing your lives, learning about your needs and offering the best possible design solutions.  Stay tuned!

Thank you to everyone for your support and encouragement!    We’ve absolutely loved being part of your lives!

Most respectfully,

Maria P. Perron, ASID, NCIDQ #022820, NKBA, NAHB

April Musings…..

Green budding trees, fresh grass, blue and even bluer skies, makes you want to strip down the heavy winter threads and put out the fresh linens.  My advice, DO IT!  What better way to usher in Spring than with the freshness new buds bring.  Make it white and light and make it green!  Amazingly refreshing and feels good on the inside too.

Floorcloths….historical, artful, irresistable

A friend of mine, Lisa Curry Mair, was featured on Vermont Public Television in a very informative segment.  Check it out here:  http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DsUPla8w31ss&h=170d5

I had to laugh, but thanks so much!

Recently, I was called to a small home once a weekend escape, now a permanent residence.  The owner really needed window treatments, one; for privacy and the other; for protection from intense sunlight.  She was really struggling through her inability to visualize what she needed, what others were telling her from her friends to her daughters to her neighbors, and her own insecurity with all things of color and decoration.

Here I was, in her home, feeling her pain grabbing one more opportunity to educate and appease someone’s fears.  Believe it or not, this is the reason I’m a professional designer.  It is such a pleasure to take someone by their shaking shoulders, teach them how to address their specific problems and watch as their shoulders gradually fall slowly to normal height – rather than around their ears.

I guess she was appreciative as she told me,  ”I couldn’t retire and I couldn’t move” as she would need me for more issues she was facing that she couldn’t face alone.  Naturally, I was flattered, but honestly, I was so pleased she could rest knowing someone was really interested in working alongside her in an area she had no natural talent for handling herself.

This is one reason we at Village House have so many wonderful friends for which we are so grateful.  We really do care about people, their needs, their living environments and how they work through their remodeling and design needs.  Please don’t hesitate to call or email us and ask a question.  We’d love nothing more than to lend expertise to your design dilemma and watch as your shoulders gradually lower to normal height!

Thank you to our clients, our friends who have allowed us to educate and assist them in their personal needs.

Who are we…..really?

Traditional Mix

There’s a certain mystique surrounding interior designers. It’s as though they are somehow involved in a world many consider glamorous, exciting and unattainable.  In reality, we are creative souls who thrive on learning, who thrive on innovation, who thrive on research and development of constantly changing ideas, products and solutions.

Personally?  At Village House we are listeners….first and foremost.  In order for us to do our jobs properly, if we don’t hear YOU and understand YOU, it’s impossible to consult and advise YOU.  We talk about who you are, learn the intimacies of your life, your fears, your anxieties, your needs, your desires and the people and pets who share your life.  We offer options with real solutions to guide you along the way to bringing your life into focus within your surroundings.

In this way – as one example – interior designers perform a unique task…that of helping clients attain a better standard of living.  We are trained to look at your environment and see those interferences that may even be hazardous to your living and teach and recommend how these can harm, offering solutions to create a safer environment.

But why choose us?  Why choose Village House?  We have set ourselves apart by specializing in this very aspect of your environment…..safe, peaceful, well planned interiors.  We study your life; we ask many questions and plan your environment so that you can live harmoniously in your space even if you have trouble reaching, bending, or standing for long periods of time.    Serious study of your environment can lead to a surprising outcome and turn your daily living into an easier, more comfortable life.

Sound incredible?  Not really, it’s what professional designers work with daily.  This is who we are.  This is what we do.  Put us to the test – give us a call and talk.  We’d love to help you realize the best environment for you, your family and your lifestyle.

The Marian Center

The Great Hall

The Great Hall

One of our latest projects is the wonderful mixed-use property known as the Marian Center for Holy Trinity Parish in Bristol, NH.

This new Center was once an older building used for many functions, mostly during the summer on Newfound Lake whose roof collapsed under the weight of heavy snow in 2008.

Luckily, the demolished building provided an opportunity to remake the building into a space utilized by many functions include parish offices, Pastor’s study, kitchen for catering and other functions, public baths, a beautiful new meeting room that also serves as a Chapel for daily Mass on Fridays with the first Mass scheduled for March 25th.  This hall, through the loving support of its parishioners and an extensive team of contractors, subcontractors and donations have led us to the very special finished result!

Village House not only worked on the actual interior planning of the design of the building but was charged with interior color scheme, lighting consultation, plumbing fixtures and consultation, counter tops, cabinetry, flooring and some decorative elements.

We are very pleased with the result of the fine teams involved and the tremendous support we received while working on this project.  It is truly an accomplishment of time, talent and treasure of its community.  The Great Hall will be available for those seeking a fine, lakeside opportunity for wedding receptions, private gatherings as well as for the main use of Holy Trinity Parish, its various ministries and the furthering education of its members and their children.    Holy Trinity Parish is comprised of several central New Hampshire towns spanning a large geographical area, most notably, Plymouth, Ashland and Bristol.

Look for more photos to come soon!

Welcome, 2011

Hello everyone and welcome to another new year when many of us look forward to a fresh start, time to regroup, clean out, refresh, and take stock of our lives and our living environments.

The early months of the year are also a great time to head into those long outstanding projects…..photo albums and address books come to my mind. It’s also a good time to organize (“Plastic tubs are now on sale at the Home Depot for $10 and under!”) and clean out closets, drawers and basements. Now is also a very good time to give away those unwanted or underutilized items you no longer need or use to those who could really use them.

Recently, on a remodel, we came across a local company that takes used sinks, faucets, counters, cabinets and more that could be used by locals undertaking a Habitat for Humanity project or for those who have a need, but not a lot of cash. These items were perfectly good, but not able to be re-used in our remodel. It’s so great to find a company like this that will take things we cannot bear to bring to the local dump. Re-use, restructure, revamp, whatever we can goes a long way to helping not only the environment, but more importantly, our neighbor.

So, welcome 2011. May we all take a deep breath and prepare to begin again, maybe a bit wiser, certainly a year older, and maybe with a generous heart toward those who could really use a helping hand!
